Who We Are
Mini Einsteins Educare opened its doors in 2015, founded by Lona Gouws and her family. Despite facing numerous challenges in the beginning, Lona’s unwavering determination allowed the centre to flourish, eventually growing to accommodate over 150 children and employing 22 staff members. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic brought significant struggles, yet Lona refused to give up. She managed to rebuild, regaining both the children and staff, even as financial difficulties continued to threaten the centre's future.
In 2023, Lona tragically passed away from cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to the community. With financial challenges still looming, her son took charge of the centre but made the difficult decision to liquidate the business in January 2024. However, his wife, inspired by Lona's vision and commitment, was determined to continue serving the community. In March 2024, she reopened the centre under a new name—The Starfish Academy—as a tribute to Lona's passion and hard work.
The Starfish Academy now stands as a living dedication to Lona Gouws, continuing her legacy of providing support and education to children and families in the community.
